The first system, a unique automated ultrasonic scanner for material checks of large sized bearings, was installed in the Schaeffler Brasov Romania plant, one of the largest production locations of the Schaeffler Group.
The scanner performs ultrasonic testing of bearing rings up to 4.2 meters in diameter with weights of up to 5 tons, detecting defects of 0.5mm at up to 300 mm depth.
The system is currently the largest ultrasonic immersion scanner in the world.

The scanner comprises a complex automated system that includes a rotary table, a lifting mechanism and a stainless-steel immersion tank
containing 45 tons of water for bearing ring submersion. The automated inspection process is particularly time-efficient,
with the ability to complete a full ultrasonic inspection of a wind turbine bearing in only 15-30 minutes (depending on size)
without compromising detection quality.
