World’s First Autonomous Ultrasonic Testing System

World’s First Autonomous Ultrasonic Testing System

The great demand for aerospace components, particularly jet engine disks and other rotating hardware components, is forcing manufacturers to resolve bottlenecks created at the Ultrasonic NDT stage of production while maintaining high standards of quality.

ScanMaster’s approach to this challenge has resulted in a unique solution - the world’s first Autonomous Ultrasonic Testing System.

ScanMaster’s automation approach significantly increases inspection productivity without compromising quality of testing, by minimizing, and even excluding (per supervisor decision) human intervention in the inspection process.

In its fully autonomous mode, the system can be configured to require an operator only for inspection process programming, validation of scan results, and decision-making.

ScanMaster’s Autonomous Testing Package provides tools such as:

Interaction with automatic material handling systems (part loading/unloading, automated chucks, parts database and more)

Automatic generation and verification of TCG curves
(traditionally a frequently repeated and time consuming process)

Automatic transducer exchange as part of an inspection scan plan (a highly efficient tool for multi-zone and multi-angle inspections)

Automatic search and evaluation of suspected indications by various means (such as automatic re-scan of false indications)

Unattended scanning with a single operator running multiple systems

Inspection productivity can be enhanced even further by using a two-bridge system where each bridge acts as an independent scanner. Both heads simultaneously scan the same part with two transducers, each following an independent scan path.
